Vice Minister of Education Chen Jie led a delegation to Finland from Oct. 18th to 19th.

Chen met with Mikaela Nylander, State Secretary of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, expressing hope that both sides would actively implement the initiative, “Doubling the Scale of European Youth Exchanges in China,” proposed by President Xi Jinping. He said that China would work closely with Finland to establish a bilateral consultation mechanism between the ministries of education of the two countries. Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on a variety of issues, including organization of the Second China-Finland Education Policy Dialogue scheduled for 2025; signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on educational cooperation to enhance cooperation in higher education, basic education, vocational education, and digital education; and participation in global educational governance.

During his tour of Finland, Chen visited the University of Helsinki and met with Rector Sari Lindblom. He also visited the University’s Station for Measuring Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations (SMEAR II) and held discussions with Chinese students currently studying in the station’s autumn program.
