In recent years, the pilot reform of vocational education at the undergraduate level has been deepened, and the channels for students' growth have become increasingly broadened. More and more young students have more wonderful life through vocational undergraduate education. In 2023, China enrolled 5,550,700 students in higher vocational colleges, while 89,900 students were enrolled in vocational undergraduate programs, an increase of 17.82% over the previous year. Vocational undergraduate education accounts for about 1.6% of the total enrollment in higher vocational education in China. In 2021, the Office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued the Opinions on Promoting High-Quality Development of Modern Vocational Education, which stipulates that by 2025, the enrollment scale of vocational undergraduate education should account for at least 10% of the total enrollment in higher vocational education. Therefore, the enrollment scale of vocational undergraduate education needs to expand by more than five times in the next two years. Currently, with the upgrading of a batch of national "double high-quality plan" construction schools and the merger and transformation of independent colleges and public vocational colleges, the vocational undergraduate schools has increased from 15 to 51.

At present, the admission mode for vocational undergraduate education is basically divided into five categories, of which the college entrance examination is the main channel. From the data of the 35 vocational undergraduate schools in 2023, most of the schools' admission scores are basically within 50 points of the undergraduate admission control line, and the completion rate of undergraduate plans is relatively high. In 2023, the six undergraduate programs at Shenzhen Polytechnic University were admitted with an average score of over 110 points higher than the Guangdong provincial undergraduate line; the 2023 undergraduate plan completion rate of Hebei Industrial Technical University was 98.09%.

The second approach is to enter a bachelor's degree program through the "College Entrance Examination for Higher Vocational Colleges" (also known as the "College Entrance Examination for Higher Vocational Colleges"). This is open to eligible graduates of vocational colleges in the province or students from the province studying at vocational colleges outside the province, who can take the examination organized by the provincial education examination authority and meet the admission requirements to enter a bachelor's degree program at a regular (professional) bachelor's degree program for a two-year course of study.

The third approach is to complete a "3+2" split-stage training program for vocational colleges and bachelor's degree programs. This is for students from pilot classes at vocational colleges in the province who have been admitted to the pilot program. After completing their three-year vocational studies, they can take a joint entrance examination organized by the two schools to qualify for a two-year bachelor's degree program at a regular (professional) bachelor's degree program, which is the same as the training method for transferring to a bachelor's degree program.

The fourth approach is the "3+4" integrated training program for middle schools and bachelor's degree programs. This refers to students enrolled in the pilot project of middle schools that have been included in the integrated training program in the province. After completing their three-year studies at the vocational school, they can take the transfer examination organized by the provincial education examination authority. If they pass the examination and meet the admission requirements, they can directly enter the corresponding bachelor's degree program for a four-year course of study, and they will be treated equally with students who enter the university through the college entrance examination. This model is suitable for middle to upper-level performing students who intend to further their education after graduating from junior high school.

The fifth pathway is the admission to vocational bachelor's degree programs through independent enrollment, which is open to graduates of vocational schools in the province, including those who have graduated in the past and those who have graduated from high schools in the past, as well as out-of-province candidates who meet certain requirements, who can enter vocational bachelor's degree programs by taking a unified entrance examination conducted by the provincial examination institute (cultural and technical subjects) and reaching the provincial admission line. This model has opened up a path for the outstanding vocational school students to enter vocational bachelor's degree programs, and is also a new exploration of the vocational college entrance examination. It can be said that all five admission methods promote the vigorous development of vocational bachelor's degree education nationwide.
