Due to the pandemic, the personal capacities of the Visa section in Beijing are still considerably reduced.

In order to be able to manage the demand for appointment for visa interviews, the Visa section Beijing has implemented appointment waiting lists for some categories of applicantsfor national visa:

Until further notice, there will be waiting lists A and B for students and one waiting list for researchers/Phd candidates. This procedure ensures that visa applications of applicants with better/higher qualifications can be processed with priority.

You can register in these waiting lists and receive the next available appointment without having to search for appointments regularly in the Embassy`s appointment system.

There will be appointment waiting lists for the following visa categories:

-Students with APS procedure

-Students without APS procedure (no doctorate)

-Researchers /PhD candidates without a German or EU scholarship/ without a working contract

I. STUDENTS

Students that want to attend a university of music or arts, and have not completed the APS’s C procedure, must register in the appointment waiting lists without APS.

Please note:

With effect from 1 March 2023 the entry restrictions for travelers from China which have been in effect since 2020 have been lifted. The former criteria for waiting list A and B have been adjusted accordingly.

You can only register in the appointment waiting list A if you fulfill the following criteria:

1. Students with APS procedure:

- Admission of a university in Germany for university studies and/or

- Admission to a preparatory college (Studienkolleg)

2. Students without APS procedure (no doctorate):

- Admission of a university in Germany for university studies or

- for students of The Arts / music: an invitation for an entrance exam at one of the member universities of the HRK German Rector`s Conference.

You must qualify for one of the above listed requirements on the day of your visa interview.

If you do not qualify for any of the above-listed requirements (e.g. if you are still in theprocess of applying to a university or want to take part in a preparatory language course but are not yet admitted to a university), please register on the respective appointment waiting list B.

Please note that if you register on appointment waiting list A in order receive an priority appointment without qualifying for one of the respective requirements on the day of your visa interview your application will be refused immediately and without further processing.

II. RESEARCHERS:

1. Researchers/PdD candidates who meet the following criteria can book a regular appointment directly in the category “National visa for researchers and PhD candidates with scholarships from German or European funds as well as for researchers with a working contract and their family members with joint entry”:

-you have a scholarship that comes predominantly from German or European funds (> 50%of your funding)

-you have a working contract with a German research institute

2. All other researchers/PhD candidates who do not meet the above listed criteria, can only register in the appointment waiting list for researchers and PhD candidates.

Accompanying family members need their own appointment. They can also register in the appointment waiting list. Kindly note the name of family members so we can arrange a joint appointment.

Please note that if you book a direct appointment in the category “National visa for researchers and PhD candidates with scholarships from German or European funds as well as for researchers with a working contract and their family members with joint entry” without qualifying for one of the respective requirements on the day of your visa interview your application will be refused immediately and without further processing.

Important information:

The appointment waiting lists in the above listed categories do not apply for visa applicants in the consular districts of the German consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenyang. Applicants who are residents of the consular districts of one of the German consulates in Mainland China are required to contact the respective Consulate's visa section for booking an appointment.
