Bavarian State Premier Markus Söder visited Beijing in March, leading a government delegation. Before arriving in Beijing, the delegation paid a visit to Chengdu and signed a partnership agreement on economic and technological cooperation between Bavaria and Sichuan. Söder emphasized the importance of dialogue and was willing to continue dialogue in areas where there were differences, such as the economy. At Tsinghua University, Söder held a roundtable discussion with Chinese students and overseas students representatives, discussing topics such as youth exchange, sustainable development, health, and the delicious Sichuan cuisine he had just experienced. He welcomed the students to study, work, and live in Bavaria. Visiting the Forbidden City and the Great Wall was also an indispensable part of his Beijing trip. Söder was the first German state premier to visit China after announcing the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
